Nebraska Solar Panel Roofing (5 Things You Need to Know)
Nebraska Solar Panel Roofing (5 Things You Need to Know)
Tesla made headlines when it announced it’s new roofing panels in 2016 with testing in 2017 and consumer purchases in 2018. Several areas in the country are already adopting Solar Panel Roofing and it’s slowly trickling it’s way to the Midwest.
Here are 5 things you need to know about Solar Panel Roofs for Nebraska:
As far as we know, no Omaha roofing companies or Omaha roofing contractors are certified installers of the products, but as we look to future, here are things to now.
1. No Major Tax Incentives in Nebraska
While there are several states that offer incentives (on top of the federal 30% tax CREDIT), Nebraska isn’t one of them. There are reduced interest loans, but no major in-state incentives.
At a federal level, however, there a 30% tax credit known as the ITC (investment tax credit) This was recently extended to the end of 2019 and there is no cap on the amount credited back to homeowners.
2. No Tesla-Licensed Roofing Contractors in Nebraska
According to their current list of roofing contractors, there are none listed for the state of Nebraska.
This presents a huge opportunity to all Omaha Roofing Contractors who decide to get licensed.
We suspect, however, that until the state really incentivizes homeowners that no roofers are in a hurry.
3. Your Entire Roof Won’t Be Solar Panels
Their website suggests that the amount of solar panel roofing varies from home to home. One of their licensed contractors will make suggestions based on several factors including orientation of your home, roof exposure to sunlight, tree coverings etc.
On average, you can expect around 60% to be solar roofing panels and the rest to be standard roofing materials. (Note: Your roof will appear unanimous from the ground level)
4. Expect to Pay Between $50,000-$100,000
As of this year, Tesla has started rolling this out and making it available to consumers. A few early adopters were able to comment that their price points were between $50k-$100k.
Obviously depending on the size of your home (and consequently roof) will determine the actual cost. This product is still in the early stages and as such, probably hasn’t seen large adoption or scales of economy.
Note: These estimates for total cost don’t factor in any tax incentives.
For a more accurate estimate of your home, use their estimation calculator.
5. It May Not be Beneficial to Get One if You Live in Nebraska…Yet
Given the information from point #4, you’ll really have to weigh out the cost vs. benefit of installing solar panel roofing.
In areas of the country where electricity cost is relatively higher, they stand to benefit more greatly.
As Nebraska may someday offer more in-state incentives and/or the cost of product/installation decreases, we may not see a huge surge yet.
