Even Without a Recent Hail Storm, You Still May Qualify for a New Roof
Sure, we all know that a recent hail storm will likely qualify you for a new roof, but did you know there are other ways get your insurance company to cover your roof?
Wind Damage
Even when a storm doesn’t produce any hail or rain, wind damage can still require roof repair. Strong winds mixed with debris can create damage to the shingles, even ripping the felt beneath them (leaving your home exposed to the elements). Cracks in the shingle or a compromised are other signs of potential wind damage and can only be confirmed upon climbing on the roof.
Other things to look out for in wind damage from the ground level include missing shingles/finding shingles in your yard or curling of your shingles. While it may be ok for a short period of time to leave the damage unattended, most home insurance carriers will cover wind damage so there’s no need to wait.
Former Hail Damage
We’ve ran across several homes in which we were able to help them file a claim with older hail damage. Usually what happens is that a storm passes and you may not realize that you have damage to your roof and so you don’t file a claim right away. What many homeowners may not realize is that there is usually a statue of limitations in filing a claim- usually a year or two at the most. And even once your claim gets approved, you have a limited window of time to fulfill the repairs to claim the insurance money.
Unaddressed shingle damage will start to cause damage in the interior of your home, most often in the form of water spots on the ceiling. We encourage homeowners who suspect roof damage to call a roofing contractor or roofing company to get a second opinion.
As your roofing contractors, we are happy to meet with your insurance adjuster onsite to advocate for the damage and see to it that you get a fair assessment.
