What Do Roofing Contractors Do?
What Do Roofing Contractors Do?
Every wonder what we do all day? Roofing contractors have a lot of roles other than replacing your roof. Each person in our office has a special and unique role in how we operate. Here is our general outline of what Mutual Roofing does.
Inspection
We always start with inspecting your property. This includes climbing on the roof, inspecting siding/windows, and other potential exterior damage. Your onsite project manager with take several pictures at this time documenting any damage we see as we work with your insurance carrier.
Then we usually schedule another visit to your property- this time meeting with your insurance adjuster. From there, the adjuster will usually compile a SOW (Statement of Work) outlining the things your insurance carrier will cover.
Supplementing
Once you receive your SOW, we will compare it with the items we discovered during our inspections. The goal is to compare and advocate on your behalf for anything that might have been missed. This process can take days or up to weeks, depending on the responsiveness of your insurance carrier.
For roof work done out-of-pocket, supplementing is not necessary.
Finalize Work Agreement
Once we reach an agreement with your insurance carrier, we compile a contract on our end. We will explain to you the work that we’ll be doing and you’ll know by the end what costs are required out of pocket. For most insurance claims, it should be only the cost of your deductible. (Unless you have an ACV policy)
We then sign a contract and agree to work together.
Roof Installation Preparation
There are a lot of backend things we need to do at this point as we prepare to start on your home. The first step is to purchase an EagleView of your home to get exact measurements. We then order your materials and arrange with our supplier on a drop off date. At the same time, we’re coordinating with our labor crews on availability while comparing it to the forecast.
During this time, our quality assurance coordinator will be in touch with you on how to prepare for your upcoming installation.
During Installation
What most people don’t realize is that it can take to a few days to complete a roofing project. Assuming good weather and no unforeseen issues, your roof can likely be complete in 2-3 day including cleanup. Our director of quality assurance will be onsite at your home a few times to check progress and answer any questions.
Demolition and Installation is very loud and messy so we encourage to only use your house as necessary.
After Installation
Our director of quality assurance will once again return to your home upon the completion to inspect the work. We will document the complete work for our records (and for your insurance carrier). One of our team members will be out of your house to pick up any remaining materials and do a thorough cleanup of your home. This includes combing your yard twice with our magnet roller for nails.
During this time, your insurance carrier may release the final insurance funds to complete the payment.
Summary
As roofing contractors, our goal is to always be on your side. We work hard to communicate throughout the process so that you’re aware of the progress of your home.
