Omaha Roofing Companies (How to Spot Good Ones)
Omaha Roofing Companies (How to Spot Good Ones)
All Omaha roofing companies are not created equally. While we all focus on roof repair, the path to getting there looks a lot different between companies. Our goal simply isn’t to tell you to use us. In fact, we want you to do your research and check other roofing companies in Omaha.
As a roofing insider, we know are very specific and nuanced ways we do things differently. There are several other companies who do these things well. We hope you take the time to ask and challenge any other roofers with these questions.
Do you supplement? If so, what does that look like?
If you’re unfamiliar with supplementing in the roofing industry, it’s the process of getting your insurance carrier to approve of everything needed for a full roof repair. These items aren’t a way to nickel and dime your insurance, rather, it’s using our knowledge to have them cover any damages that were missed or underpaid. A good roofing company does this in a fair way that creates a win/win/win for all parties involved (roofer, homeowner, and insurance carrier).
A roofer that supplements is extremely knowledgeable in roofing materials, roofing installation, and building codes. For instance, some gables on a home are too narrow/steep to work on a roof so we would have to supplement for extra materials to install those shingles from a ladder position. Another example is accounting for ice and water shield which goes beneath the shingle (an Omaha city ordinance enacted in 2009).
Many roofing companies supplement sparingly or not at all simply because of the tedious effort and “paperwork” involved. By not doing so, they could potentially create more problems or costs for the homeowner. This could be in the form of missed work (which you’ll pay out of pocket for) or using cheaper materials/cutting corners to “complete” the job.

Do you understand insurance claims?
Similar to the previous question, insurance claims is something fully understood by all Omaha roofing companies. A roofer that is knowledgeable is able to be a guide and advocate for the homeowner during this process. For instance, we take great pride in understanding the different policies from different provides. We know what kind of photos to take to furnish the proof to get your claim approved. We know what type of damage warrants filing a claim and can advise you on that.
On top of it all, a good roofer will be accessible to answer any questions along the way to expedite the claim. They’re knowledgeable enough to educate you on the process and work alongside you until completion.
Do you have a local office?
It’s not too difficult to start a roofing company simply because most of your time is spent “on site” at a client’s house. As such, there have been a lot of Omaha roofing companies popping up all over town. Many of them, however, don’t have a local office. You might think, “Well, that’s fine as long as they do good work” and we don’t disagree with you. The caveat, however, is what if they don’t do good work? Can they truly be accountable if they only maintain a PO Box?
And being local is important, too. They’re close enough where you can reach them on your own time if an issue arrives, or simply to drop off a payment. Work with a roofer that has a local reputation that they need to maintain or protect. (Out-of-state roofers aren’t as motivated to maintain a local reputation.)
Check the Reviews
As with any other service-oriented business, always check the reviews. Look to external sources such as Facebook, Google, Yelp, and Angie’s list to see if the Omaha roofing companies you’re considering have a good reputation.
Check for consistencies (or inconsistencies) in the reviews. A string of negative reviews all pointing to the same problem might mean you need to consider another roofing company. Additionally, you can put out a generic message about the companies you’re considering in a Facebook post to get more feedback. Your friends and family may provide invaluable information to help you pick the best option.
