What Should Roofing Contractors Blog About?
Have you ever wondered what roofing contractors blog about?
If you’re a roofer and have consulted with an SEO company at any point in time, then you probably have a long list of things you need to do for your SEO.
Among them is blogging.
You already know that a blog on your site is a great way to add keywords to your website and thus climb the ranks of Google. And climbing the ranks of Google will surely drum up more leads and business.
The problem is…you likely hate writing and even if you don’t mind it, you have no idea what to write about.
As roofers ourselves, we hope to give you some ideas of what roofing contractors should be writing about. Here are some things to consider when writing blogging on your roofing site:
Think Like a Homeowner
If you’re struggling on what topics to write about, we encourage that you remove your “roofer” hat and put on a “homeowner” hat.
What are things that you know well about your industry that homeowners might not?
What tips could a roofing contractor advise them on?
Think about conversations that you’ve had with homeowners in which you’ve answered complex questions. Turn those conversations into blog posts.
If all fails, a nice little hack that I’ve learned is to Google to start asking generic questions. Then let the auto-complete function gives you ideas. The reason these suggestions come up is that they’re actually things people have Google and therefore, things they’re curious to know more about. See below:

Keep Blogging Regularly
If you’ve started blogging, but haven’t seen your website move up then don’t give up!
Blogging works much like investments. They may be slow to return investment, however, consistency over time will prove worthwhile.
This is where many of your roofing competitors will fall off the bandwagon since they will lose motivation. You, though, keep moving on. Keep logging in, writing material, and publishing it regularly.
Slowly, but surely, Google will see your efforts and reward you accordingly. You just need to realize now that it does take time, especially in competitive industries.
Roofing is no different.
Though the roofing industry isn’t as fast evolving as other industries, there are always interesting things to discuss. To help get you started here are some ideas:

- Evolution of Roofing Materials

Write for Human Readers and Search Engines
Many roofing companies and SEO firms that work for roofing companies get this part wrong. They either write entirely for a human reader or often times, they write primarily for search engines.
The problem with only writing to appeal to human readers is that you may lack understanding of keywords, hyperlinks, and structural layout that are approved for SEO purpose. If the whole point of blogging is to gain SEO traction, then you’ll be missing the mark with this approach.
The problem with only writing to appeal to search (which oftentimes what happens) is that the content is boring and dry. While it may help with your SEO a bit, it’ll never reach its full potential of being shared or lead generation.
This is a complex subject and many roofers simply don’t have the time to learn this knowledge and write the content. In this case, I encourage you to hire a quality SEO company to manage your blog or hire someone in-house.
Summary
Blogging undoubtedly can feel daunting for roofers. You may read all this and realize that it’s best to hire a company/person. Or you may be invigorated to start blogging on your site.
Whatever the case, I encourage you to take some action. The world of marketing (especially for roofing) is shifting and you can remain stagnant or move along with it.
